DCFEMS Announces Funeral Arrangements for Firefighter

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS) announces funeral arrangements for the Line of Duty Death (LODD) of Lieutenant Kevin McRae, who was serving as the officer in charge of Engine Company 6, Platoon No. 4.

Funeral services will be held:   Friday, May 15, 2015
9 a.m. Public Viewing
11 a.m. Public Service
D.C. Armory
2001 East Capitol St. SE
Washington, DC 20003

Interment:                        Fort Lincoln Cemetery

Brentwood, MD 20722

“Lt. Kevin McRae was a true hero. For more than two decades he served his city with distinction and made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others. Lt. McRae may be gone, but he will never be forgotten,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser.

At about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 6th, Lt. McRae responded with his crew to an apartment building fire located on the ninth floor of 1330 7th St. NW. After descending the stairs with his crew, he collapsed. He was immediately assessed and treated by paramedics on the scene. He was transported from the fire ground to the hospital, where he later passed away. The cause of death has not been determined.

“The McRae family has experienced the tragic loss of their son, brother, husband, father, nephew, cousin and uncle. It’s important for them to know we are here for them,” said Acting DCFEMS Chief Gregory M. Dean. “We are deeply saddened by the death of our brother and friend, Lt. Kevin McRae.”

Lt. McRae, 44, was a graduate of Frank W. Ballou High School in the District. He joined the Department through the cadet program in July 1989. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2003; then promoted to lieutenant in 2008. He is the 100th DC Fire and EMS Department firefighter to die in the line of duty.

Lt. Kevin McRae Survivor Fund

May 8th, 2015 - On Wednesday May 6th, 2015 the District of Columbia Fire & EMS Department lost one of it's best and bravest members - Lt. Kevin McRae on the fire ground at 1330 L St. NW.

Lt. McRae was a 24 year veteran of the department assigned to 6 Engine, No. 4 platoon. He leaves behind his wife Trell, and 5 children. There has been an overwhelming show of support for the family of Lt. McRae. We are asking that anyone who would like to help the family, make donations through the DC Fire & EMS Foundation in the name of Kevin. All donations go directly to his family, to assist with the expenses which occur as they go through this difficult period.

May 6th, 2015 - Local 36 regrets to inform the membership of the line-of-duty death of Lt. Kevin McRae, 6 Engine No.4 Platoon, while operating at a 2nd Alarm apartment fire Box No. 264, at 1330 7th St. NW this morning. Our heartfelt sympathies go to Kevin's wife, family, and to his fellow members of 6 Engine & Truck 4. We are greatly diminished with Kevin's passing.

San Francisco Firefighters LODD's

June 3rd, 2011 -  The members of the San Francisco Fire Department, & San Francisco Firefighters Local 798 have lost two of their members in the line of duty. Lt. Vincent Perez, was killed while fighting a fire in the Diamond Heights district; a second member, Firefighter Anthony Valerio has succumbed to injuries sustained while operating at that fire. Both men were assigned to Engine 26, and responded to a house fire in the Diamond Heights district of San Francisco. Please keep the men and their families in your thoughts & prayers, as well as our fellow brothers & sisters of the San Francisco Fire Department and L-798.
